As per Home Office guidelines, any candidate who is applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or for Naturalisation / British Passport is required to show good knowledge of English and Life in the UK.
In order to fullfill the requirement of Knowledge of Language, candidates need to obtain a qualification at or above Entry level 3 / B1 CEFR which consist of Speaking and Listening modules. The test must be listed on the SELT (Secure English Language Test) list.
UK English test offers Entry level 3 / B1 CEFR test at different test locations within the UK. The qualification is approved and accepted by UK Home Office for Citizenship / British Naturalisation / ILR applications for Visa. To book a test, click on Find or Dates and Location to find the nearest test date. You can then fill the form to book your seat for the test.
Since 28th October 2013 the requirement has changed from ESOL (A1) (Entry level 1) level to ESOL (B1) (Entry level 3) level. If you have allready passed ESOL at A1 level you have to sit for an ESOL B1 level (Entry level 3) again.
From 5th November 2015 onwards, Home Office will not accept qualification which is not on the SELT list as a proof of Knowledge of English Language. All candidates must pass English Test from an examination body that is on the SELT list and conducted at SELT Approved test centre.
